Wow. There have been two very goods episodes between past week and this one. I’ve watched the two today and there are a lot of god things to say about them, let’s go:

1. The confirmation of the fact that the children are experiments for the “Adults” and “Papa” (whose pronunciation by the way, makes my Spanish Papá heart hurt xD Sryl papa=potato in Spanish not dad) on the old way of living or the when-we-weren’t-basically-robots way.

2. That the “Adults” are very-very creepy, but innocents who doesn’t know better in the majority of cases. Like that is the only live they have known like the kids with his own. You just have to see how that women talked and took care of Zorome until she literally couldn’t because him mattered to her, or the way the young woman that helps commanding the scuadron is slowly becoming more emphatic and like them (us) through her interactions. I can’t say the same of the other guy, her companion. He is very serious and adult-like.

3. The subtle not so subtle nod to other sexualities and compatibility in general in chapter 11 with Ikuno and Mitsuru. The discussion they both had throughout the first middle sounded to me like one girl who has accepted her sexuality annoyed with the friend who has his head in negation, and both are each other covers (fals B/Gfriends).

I really didn’t expect failed-first-crush-with-Hiro Mitsuru coming, but it was very good. Before somebody says the reaction of Mitsuru is too exaggerated… Well, nobody teached these kids healthy ways of dealings with their emotions. Nobody told them what real expectatives of relations with others are. And nobody really explained Mitsuru that getting in a high risk operation just for the sake of a child with whom never really will pilot (because apparently same sex franxx aren’t a thing in universe yet i hope) is not okey. In fact, he never should have got that last option but this is a fucked up dystopian universe so… Anyway, I think all it fits on, and those bits gave us even more reasons to be suspicious of Hiro blank memories and the “Adults”.  And I loved that glorious moment when Ichigo is all like “meh, I knew it wouldn’t be a success without a man ” and Ikuno answered her back with basically “well, I’m fucking serious here”. If we take the piloting=sex metaphor here, it is basically two female friend teenagers experimenting with F/F and one of them realizing that “nah, this isn’t my thing” while the other is like “eh, I really wanted this with you, didn’t you know?? I thought you were thoughting same as me”. It is very relatable, sadly.

4. Direct consequence of the former: headcanon gay Ikuno and bi Mitsuru.

5. All my love to Kokoro, who doesn’t know very well how to say what she wants but knows she has the right to take opportunities to change if presented. Anybody saying shit about her dumpingFutsushi is shit too. Because nobody has the right to deny you try with a new relationship when you are not comfortable in the other, or right away doesn’t like that much your former companion. If Kokoro feels she could be better off with Mitsuru and he reciprocates, to hell the others. They aren’t hurting (too much, in irreparable ways, you know because your crush being unrequired is a pain almost everybody has known) anybody. And they could be happy together. So go Kokoro, go, to whenever your happiness might lie. Because woman deserve that too. .

6. Hehe, something is fishy with Zero-Two, and I think it is because she knows a lot more than the others about what is happening, and she is know more attached to them. This is why she reject Hiro’s attempt to talk by the way, because she knows somehow, that they all are nothing but experimenting pieces to “Papa” and the “Adults” and very likely to die in painful ways. Which is also why she told Hiro the “we will be together forever until death” speech at the end of the episode, I’m sure. Also her bigger teeth a lo “abuelita, abuelita, ¡qué dientes más grandes tienes!” of Little Red Riding Hood XD

7. And finally, the strangeness in Hiro, who seems to have been vey extrovert and leader-like before the odd “adults” fucked his memories. I think it is because of that why he started to fail slowly but surely in the pilots trials and latter with her old partner, at the same time he begun to retire himself of his old friends. Even Goro noticed his personality started to change after that. Humpf, if this related to Zero-Two in any form is still to be seen.

This is all I think. Darling in the FranXX has not let me down yet and I have high hopes for the future episodes. And more than a few theories xD

Darling in the Franxx is profiling to be one of my favourite animes this year. What happened at the end of chapter 6 is one of the reasons why.

You know people, that in anime self-sacrifice is seen as a good quality for a hero. Not to the point of making them reckless but on a much higher grade than we occidentals tend to think of. All those final battles which ends with both sides dead or gravely injured, all those times when a character is left behind to hold back the enemy/s, when one dies to be with their beloved in their final sacrifice…. Isolated, these episodes are not bad, or even together, most of the time the message is to defend your people and ideals even at the worst and then be recompensed even though you could be dead by then, with the end desired. However, most of this come out as being resigned to die or picturing dying as a good thing, idealizing it. Even when the partners and friends are all crying and suffering the message it leaves is that it was worthy, even when it was meaningless.

For me, dying is not a good end, worst if it comes at a young age as I’ve watched in a lot of anime and manga. In Darling in the FranXX we don’t see Hiro intend to die piloting with Zero-Two as something good by other characters. For he it doesn’t matter, but Goro and Ichigo are very worried and even Zero-Two with all her aloof personality was desespering when Hiro was half-dead. She didn’t want him to give up, but to him try with all his forces to pilote with her. That is why he had the vision of his former partner being angry with him, and Zero-Two turning her back on him even with sadness.

The moment when he realizes this is one of the most satisfying I’ve had watching anime. I expect that in the future, Hiro also give us another reason to fly along her, because for me, this anime show us the travel of how this poor kids (and Hiro, Zero-Two and Ichigo especially) learn to be and live for themselves. To be human.
