saw someone say(write) that enemies to lovers don’t harm each other, they just disagree strongly bc if not is abuse and other bad things and i’m like. anon, did you read any true enemies to lovers? book or fic or film? that they are enemies requires they hurt each other in some way, even if only their feels on their goals bc they’re strongly in opposition bc of war or hate each other or smth and that they see past that is the appeal of it, (or even don’t completely get over it but still can’t help but also respect and be fascinated for the other that shit is great) don’t come to me with your rivals-to-lovers-lite version of this trope. (or even a friends-sepparated-by-ideology) that’s not enemies-to-lovers.

enemies to lovers is high octane obssesive romance or a redemption story or both- it involves strong feels not your mellow(vanilla) high school/college rivalry. sorry those aren’t mortal enemies lol not even dangerous enemies.

enemies to lovers can have a lot of variances in its execution and all are valid lol go get mad anywhere else but here.

Posting more thoughts because i wrote the above deep into the night after coming home from the midnight showing so i wasn’t the most coherent and managed to critic what i meant to leave for today.

On good news, I managed to know that Duende is Sprite in English; amazing guy with Thena was Gilgamesh (also I liked his chara but I’m a bit >-> about the Gilgamesh legend given it seems Enkidu was substituted for one of the Deviants? But that’s nothing to do with the quality of his arc and more me being a myth nerd), and also techno-family guy was Phastos? I somehow hear him named as Faustus in Spanish xD

Going on with the true commentary-review lol: Elaborating on Sersi who is not Cersei, but Sersi written like so in Spanish sounds like sexy mangled by an Andalusian, so I will keep writing Cersei with the understanding this is a different chara with none of the fault of the og!Cersei. Ok? Ok. So Cersei caught my interest at the start? Her powers reminded me of Fullmetal Alchemist and they’re pretty amazing, but she personally lost me. I think I got what they were trying to do with her chara; a woman leader overshadowed by her old lover who had to learn to choose for herseld and lead others, a new turn around of the reluctant hero… But she came across very muted and distant and. Well. Too passive for my tastes. I liked her well enough but I was much more entertained by, like, evryone else. Including her antagonistic ex with complex but also clear motivations who is still, btwen murdering their boss and menacing everyone including her, unable to kill or stop her when it counts and ends up helping her goals anyway. I find pretty terrible that despite calling bullshit to the screen anytime he was being his dumbass self I still came out with more of a sense on Ikaris as a person than Cersei. That’s… not great for your fem protagonist. Although all things considered like I said, she was a solid concept. And her pacifism was very refreshing, her being asian over all of the above very cool, but i just didn’t vibe with her chara.

Moving on to others…. Uhm. Druig and his cult(?)(it was totally a cult wasn’t it? ot a commune-cult i guess?) in the middle of the amazon was somewhat unexpect but understable, too? He was super done with violence and went, “so I’m absconding with these humans I’ve taken a like to and we’re gonna live in peace and the rest of you can go to shit I can’t anymore.” I mean, I expected him to be kind of in the moving trying to meedle on conflicts or something, but I guess by then he had already realised it was an impossible task and centered himself on doing what he could for his little pocket of the world. Which is why the aftermath of the attack of the Deviants moving so rappidly for them… I got stuck on those poor people, and how will they ever manage to transition into a normal life without him. Not that it’s bad a mind controlling demigod isn’t monitoring their every movement or thought, but is a super big change (giants monster et all) that blew over super quickly and then we don’t see him worry or reflect on that anymore…. Yes this is a film with tons of characters, so I understand why, but it got stuck in my head…. I feel Druig was stuck in a super awkwards middle land of feeling very much superior to humans bc of his powers and also feeling very protective of them bc of the same, so it lead to. Well, the film situation.

But also his and Makkari lil moments and dynamic was golden! I loved it. You really get a sense of these two as being both aloof and appreciative in different ways of humans and also more chillax about the whole mission…. Although Makkari waiting by herself on the ship for the others to everyone go together home ;_; What a woman!!! (Also, it’s very funny to me that apparently she went outside with regularity to like, get herself books, and art, and all other kind of trinkets, as shes wont to do, and managed to avoid everything electronic, lol.) But yeah. And when she went all furious to hit on shitty Ikaris, my friend and I were all, “YAS, teach him to not touch other people loved ones!!!”Also it seems like Makkari’s actress is 43? She’s looks so young and she’s so pretty!!!

Re: Phastos. Umm. His moment in Hiroshima was. As tasteful as it can be coming from someone heavily coded as one of those american scientists so ashamed of having collaborated on Proyect Manhattan, although I don’t think for a second he was there, I think he was clearly talking about him regretting guiding humanity technologic evolution in general. The whole sequence still felt a bit “eh” coming from an USA studio. Although it was very nice seeing them state clearly what a human horror and mistake it was. Didn’t get a feeling of disrespect or anything, just you know, sensible subject. Leaving that aside, very happy he was apparently married to another man and with a kid? Yay, representation?! (also a lot of poc rec in general in this one, i liked to see that too) One of these days it’d be between two mains charas who also don’t need to be super married and with a kid but hey, progress! And Phastos storyline was guided by a love for humanity in general so he was a nice parallel to Cersei, the protag, and also him beating and immobilising Ikaris with his science power (which was super pretty to see) was great, although I still remain a bit unconvinced about the whole setting down happily with humans in general for the Eternals. They’re 7000+ aliens/robots, but that’s my inner scapist fantasy lover talking lmfao. Better to love and live than be alone and just survive.

Also on Sprite, again: very happy nothing weird happened with her and Ikaris, most of all for the actress, and also, it was completely unnecessary… Her powers and role as the, we’ll say, potentiator of humanity’s imagination and creativity was not lost on me, and her maestry with illusions was nicely nicely done. As a writer loved all those implications. Still think hers was a shitty ending, and the traition bit left me cold, too, although I got it. But I loved Sprite first appearence in screen (when I thought she was a boy, and really the gnc look was pretty great overall, although a bit “eh” that it was conflated with her not growing up instead of, you know, because she likes the androginy. using she/her bc those were her pronouns and her arc is very much tied to it? in some uncomfortable ways? but i totally support other headcanons) and sadly by the end I was very meh on her. Although the swinging back and forth between ancient and childish was nice! What a terrible dicotonomy.I get why she wanted an adult body I still don’t get why she needed to be human and mortal for it when even Phastos with a human hushband and child he will eventually outlive doesn’t show an iota of wanting to be human.

Also everybody battle clothes were very pretty and they each had special symbolism? I couldn’t get everyone’s on the cinema but I’ll have to search a bit more on it. Still, pretty clothes = my grand worth nothing approval.

The meta commentary/self-awareness was excessive as always with Marvel, although a bit more tasteful than in other of their movies, (that superman comment lol, although it’s true dc was very present in my head when i saw ikaris flying and buring things with his eyes lol) and i loved how it took its time with everyone both in the past and the present! There’s a lot of stories there lost to the time, that I would love to see portrayed on fic. They could virtually be anywhere on Earth at any given time in history except for the few hard canon time-locations, it’s doing great things to my imagination. (A bit how I feel after watching The Old Guard, Good Omens or Hetalia, but even more fantasy-science fiction lol) (also how some relationships are left ambiguous, too!!!)

So I think I’ve said everyhting I wanted until now? If I want to say more later I’ll reblog again.

Good movie, very refreshing compared to the shit marvel has been doing lately, I still don’t trust nor will trust them or Disney but this is a good direction to be going in. For an action superhero movie the characterization was really nice!

PD: So Eros was Harry Styles? Who would have know, not me, I thought for a few moments he was Thomas Brodie-Sangster without the super young face, but well I was never a 1D fan nor do I like his music so eh. I don’t care. Good on him if that’s what he wants? To all those annoyed people bc Harry isn’t a true actor and Disney is being shitty. Dear anons of the net: when has Disney not been specially shitty this past decade?

So I’m out.

alnair_tair: (Default)

Just saw the eternals on the cinema despite promising myself not to go to any more marvel movies and hey it seems they can learn a little. For an action movie of Disney it was pretty decent (although there a few things at the end that are like ew) ( I’ll explain in a reblog tomorrow) and although cersei(?) (And really what was it with game of thrones actors and sound in this movie) was super boring as a main chara the rest of the charas made up for it….

And I have really questionable taste bc my faves in terms of pure id was druig and then elf(?)/duende. Also tech guy but that’s clearly good taste, and thena was suitably mystical although I really disliked how her partner died. Although the fact that some of those partnerships nature is left ambiguous was something I loved! For qpr and besties aro headcanons of course. And yeah the end with the power of love winning ikaris over was very well done… Not his death or supposed death though, that was a waste.

How can he redeem himself if he commits suicide? Why does duende became human? That was the yikeist thing I’ve watched on a while. She’s still 7000+ years old, only now she has to relate with stupid teen humans at school and not have access to either her family or her powers, that have been with her for millennia just for the chance to settle down with someone mediocre who will never be able of truly understanding her. I’m furious. Just age her body up and keep her eternal omg, cersei you had all the powers for a hot minute there. I can’t with Disney insistence in a ciheteronormative life being the end all of things to wish foe. Also got the inkling that cersei and ikaris saw duende as like, their charge or something and it was very yikes. Not bc any anti bullshit but for the difference in perspectives between the charas of their relationships to one another.

Still. It was an entertaining movie! Revved for passing the time; you could watch it at home for free!!

the only way i know of finding fic in twitter is via discord link shares and fic author enthusiastically sharing the fanarts of their fics. this is an absolutely normal factoid and not a symptom of my utter inability to comprehend twitter search function (or the fact that it just doesn’t work)

alnair_tair: (Default)
all those modern au’s and recs of them and i’m here, grinding my teeth bc people can and will like/write whatever they want but i for some reason cannot stand modern au’s or any kind of hard au deviating from the canon world so i sit here. fuming. reminding myself the search and the close tab exist for me to use them and that ao3 exclude search terms is a gift from the heavens… but i really cannot understand why in some fandoms like a third or a fourth or half all the fics are modern aus or adjacent? i suppose it easier to write if you just transplant everyone to some nebulous equivalent of your country’s cities or usa but it feels like the easiest way of getting ooc charas… some modern au are at least interesting but yeah, not my thing.
alnair_tair: (Default)
going through the jujutsu kaisen tags and everytime anyone refers to the author as gege i go real real quiet. and then i realise “oh right, this is a japanese manga, hahahaha”. bc it feels like everyone is doing the “nii-chan, nii-chan” but in chinese and let me tell you, it’s really weird until i remember.
alnair_tair: (Default)

Went to watch Dune and liked it! It ended just when I was getting super super invested which… ouch, and it also has “issues” but it’s just so very pretty and epic and weird! Dunno if I’ll read the books just now or wait until we know if there’s gonna be or not a second part! But the film is recced! Although it was weird to hear everybody dubbed XD These days in my home I just watch subbed.

Also the toros everywhere just sent me and my friends into fits of laughter bc when you’re watching Dune in Spanish the only reaction is laugh. Atreides is greek but that aesthetic… And those moorish-mediterranean windows… I see you art department. I see you…

PD: I heard future installements should do away with the yikes of white saviourism to show it was a terrible idea actually? You already could see very well in the film the saviour thing is manuphactered by the Bene Gesserit(?)! The voice Paul hears in his vision/hallucination moments is suspiciously similar to that elder women of the star so like. And the visions aren’t necessarily true? More like symbolic things… But then Dunan died just as he saw it… Umm. Something fishy here…

About Vanitas no Carte and anime-only viewers complaints of a slow show with no plot… What have you been watching? (no offense;)

I think the story gives out clearly at the start what is going to do? It’s a character-driven mystery about vampires so of course you’re going to learn the plot and world bit by bit as you learn about the characters; I can understand how it may be slow or difficult to follow for some people but as someone who thrives in more long stories that take their time to unravel…. (and who demand certain intellectual engagement, bc if not then I can get bored quickly with whatever is happening in it) I love the way it VnC makes you think and analyze the dialogue and foreshadowing.

The first season is like prologue + start of the first act of the story so you have to exercise trust on the author to see how it goes, and it may be slow? Compared to one season fillers, the manga of this anime is on the way to have 100 chapters or even more compared to the progress of the story and Pandora Hearts, Jun Mochizuki previus’ manga. So of course it takes its time, although the anime went way faster than it should by some parts; a first season of 13-15 episodes would have done the story more justice, but I think the anime nonetheless manages to capture the mood and the principal stuff quite well and compellingly.

Sigh. Well I expect by season 2 people will have learnt, read the manga or just dropped this altogether if it isn’t their shonenish-moeish cupe of tea.

Remembering all those songs and artists I discovered when I dipped into fandom for the first time back in 2011/2012, and I was reading Harry Potter fic (my first fandom) in Spanish in potterfic and fanfiction.net (and the only English I could talk was super basic plus the memorized lyrics to Adele’s Someone like you) and the most famous fic.authors had songs in every chapter or something. Not like now where people are like “oh yeah this title came from that song” or “this fic was partially inspired by this song” but honest to good guides at the start of each chapter on which songs where better for which part of the chapter with helpful dots for the sections. A bit annoying? But also I almost never regretted when I followed a suggestion.

So now I have a playlist of artists and songs that remind me of that time so strongly and they make me nostalgic… Even though in retrospective those fics I was enamored by wouldn’t hold up to the pass of time (I tried to reread one of my fave dramiones of that time and wow it feels like bad melodrama when in my head it was so poignant and serious and tragic i didn’t try again), they were vital in my growth as a reader, and offered so much…

Although at first I nopped out of fanfiction.net bc I had no idea of how to use it to even change chapters, let alone how to search for fics… And livejournal was the big unknown bc I didn’t manage English well enough until 2016/2017 and by 2018 all in it was dissapeared which makes me furious bc I coud have read lots but I arrived like minutes late to the exodus, and anyway, it’s unreasonable bc I was a dumb little teen back then but all those fics and meta that dissapeared while I was unaware on the wild wild net learning, diving deep in manga and youtube, and discovering that AO3 even existed and what in hell even was Tumblr.

New artists and also new ways of reading a story and how it didn’t matter if you took away something completely different. Also that I wasn’t strange for liking weird stuff (in various and varied senses). It inured me to ooc in the HP fandom to a degree which is totally weird in my actual fandoms today (ask me about my suffering with mdzs fic) but also made read so much I needed to use google translate to search fics in English bc I had already read my faves in Spanish. That’s how I learnt such a high proficiency in English by the way. Reading so much in Google translation and listening to so many songs that I somehow learnt the turn of phrases and common verbs in English by osmosis. The grammar was taken care of by public education.

What I’m trying to say is that I’m nostalgic for that first year or two of reading fic, when everything was new and I devoured hundreds of fics and listened to all the dumb songs and was too shy to even create an account or comment, flabbergasted by the lingo and also really charmed by the way they talked to the readers (and those betas whose function in fic I couldn’t even guess) and even the characters sometimes. It was nice.

Dunno but Spain’s libraries are lit this year

image
image

And I cannot believe that’s the first edition ever in Spanish of Jin Yong’s wuxia saga and it’s a translation from English. 😂😭 For that better that I wait to gain more proficiency in Chinese and read the original but goodness so difficult is to find a spanish-chinese translator? XD also a rendition of octavie e. Butler a lady I didn’t know existed until I saw her book there but the trilogy'got good vibes… Anothe edition of dune in my waiting list xD and also ken liu, which hey, I’m easy for fantasy and conspiracy plus a bunch of Spaniard authors that also have released interesting fantasy only it seems mostly YA and I’m meh on it although the premises sound interesting. Good on them although!!

as someone whose selfworth has never been in doubt in her life, and indeed, becomes rather furious when a slight against her is noted and doesn’t stay silent…

i cannot tell you anon people of the net how much i hate fics in where the characters personality is reeduced to the same whiny “i have no worth oh~ poor me~” when there’s no indication in canon of this being a problem. it’s like watching a carton copy of the same archetype once and once again.

i get it!! self-projection and a lot of writers wants wish-fullfilment but nothing kills my interest in a story faster that noticing that pattern. because i cannot relate in any way or form to that artificial angst, it just irks me, even more bc i know the charas weren’t originally like that and that’s why i liked them. and i love a good angst/tragedy fic, very cathartic, but only when it works truly with the character and its not inflated with fake issues. ugh.

nothing against people with problems of selfworth, wishing them the best. nor explorations in canon of that. just feeling really really tired of reading the same damn thing replicated without thought to character personality or narrative function all over fics.

OG POST

OP sorry for hijacking with my own thoughts I just find your analysis interesting. Made me think >-<

Holy shit that last part hasn’t occured to me but yeah, it’s Jiang Cheng who then goes to accompany his shixiong in finishing the torturing of Wen Chao, something Wei Wuxian has been a time doing alongside all of the haunting (in the ghost sense too) of Wen soldiers. so he learnt that he could do that and liked it (in some way, for sure) because of/thanks to Wei Wuxian.  Uh.

Also it’s interesting bc Jiang Cheng hates the Wen as much or more than Wei Wuxian but he hadn’t thought of torture, contenting himself with straightforward killing and extermination. Not that’s much better but you know. Still not toying with someone psychologycally for months while personally killing their subordinates for maximum mindbreaking and making them eat themselves at the end and broking their minds. Like. There’s a reason Lan Wangji goes out that building where Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian do unspeakable things to Wen Chao and sits down thinking “the sun has fallen” re:wei wuxian and it’s not lovesick dramatics. Again, holy shit.

Of course later Wei Wuxian is like… Well no, actually, I don’t remember well the novel, it’s been sometime since I read it but was there actually any moment in which he regretted the absolute brutal way in which he treated the Wen soldiers and their corpses during the Sunshot Campain? Maybe he wouldn’t act that way anymore, and sees it as wrong, but do we see him repenting of it?

(I think nop, bc MDZS world is not a modern one.)

Seems to me it’s more like he considered it a deal done when their side won the war (and he and JC avenged Yummeng Jiang to their satisfaction) and so further represalies were unnedeed and unjust in WWX’s POV, and he ends up helping Wen Qing and Wen Ning because of the personal connection (once he remembers they exist when WQ suddenly appears) which then furthers to the rest of the Wen prisioners, clearly people who were on the perifery of the war or too old or too young to fight.

Like. Morality in general is just such a boring way of judging charas.

And also, with Xue Yang and Koi Tower as an example of what people was doing on the regular with demonic cultivation thinking they were following on the steps of the dreaded Yiling Patriarch (and Wei Wuxian had that reputation bc of something), are we absolutely sure Jiang Cheng tortured and killed (only) innocent people? Mo Xuanyu did, at the end, sacrifice himself for revenge on his family thinking they were gonna die brutally murdered by the cultivation world’s boggieman, we may assume, so… (he’s a complete narrative cipher we may infer whatevs and I find mxy more interesting in this light).

I mean Jin Ling helping “Mo Xuanyu” scape his uncle suggets that Jiang Cheng has a history of just going for the torture and dissapearing of demonic cultivators without corroborating much of anything, blinded by his own history and feels, so like. Sure. It’s probable he did. But it’s all in the air for people to do what they like with, and it’s hearsay and we know what history that has in MDZS.

And even if Jiang Cheng does torture demonic cultivators in the regular bc he’s chasing the ghost of Wei Wuxian and those final years of unhappines when his last family died bc of it… Sorry it makes him more interesting >-< Not a good guy but a super interesting chara worth exploring and liking by whoever. (Me. It’s me)

alnair_tair: (Default)

That time you realise you appreciate the canon and canon-adjacent only interpretations of a text (aka meta) over anything else in fandom (although speculation is also fun when we recognise that’s all it is) but also loves thinking of weird canon divergences or just plain likes multishipping contradicting ships etc. I love how it all can coexist. Don’t let anybody tell you to think otherwise.

(I think the trick is loving and appreciating the canon for what it is even if you like to play with other aspects of it or change things in fic you know? So long as we don’t lose sight of what it’s truly canon, as in the words of the author or what’s really on screen I think we’re fine. Go wild.)

alnair_tair: (Default)

Ah, so much better!!

I don’t like how they didn’t show Noé’s realising Vanitas self-destructive contradicting behaviour but I’ll give them the opportunity of tying it with next episode and the shit fest that is the Moreau!flashbacks.

But the pace compared to last episode is really good, I was super engaged watching it, and although the fight scene with Roland at the start was a bit meh with the outfocus, the rest was great.

And I just love how Vanitas and Noé interacted with each other here, (also this arc is Vanitas’ time to shine and oh boy it delivers) and just, everything about the last part with Roland!! Also, the soundtrack is much more noticeable this arc, and I’m here for it!
alnair_tair: (Default)

Just watched the two first episodes from MoDaoZuShi donghua, season 3, and wow. I forgot how much I liked this version of the story ;_; I really enjoyed the episodes ^^. It modifies things but it does all so prettily and the va’s and soundtrack is also great and really, I like how this version plays with novel!canon.

Yi City’s arc is looking like I’ll like it; I just jumped and speed read that part on the novel while they were releasing the chapters in english the first time xd So maybe I’ll give it another chance; I admit I like tragedy and the complicated interplays of relationships so. I should like it xD But I was so very impatient.

(Not like with CQL I have to admit; I couldn’t go past episode 10 of the live action for ~r e a s o n s~ that have all to do with my dislike of its aesthetics and of the softening of the mistery/dark parts of the story.)
alnair_tair: (Default)

PEOPLE. PEOPLE FELLOW MANGA FANS OF VANITAS NO CARTE.

Ok, I’ve got your attention. What if the anime adapts up until the last arc shown in the manga, that is, the one ending right now???? Could it be done or would Gevaudane plus interludes take the second cour completely? I wouldn’t want the current arc to be shoppily adapted ;_; And I don’t think is possible to do it?

Maybe the anime will end foreshadowing it, SPOILER YOU ANIME FANS with the noé-vanitas exchange after vanitas panicking about falling for jeanne, and dominique’s dissapearence making itself known? To leave things strong for anime fans to go to the manga and a future continuation to the anime??

If future seasons go in twelve by twelve episodes each two or three years…. we could have all the manga in anime, as they seem to be do with manga nowadays and not the shoppily ended Pandora Hearts…. Maybe a reboot of that if we wish it very much?
alnair_tair: (Default)

WHY?! WHY!? WHY DID THEY ERASE ALL PEOPLE FROM THE LATER SCENE OF VANI AND NOE, AND DOMI AND JEANNE DANCING WHEN THEY APPEARED AT THE START??? WHY DID NOE AND VANI DANCE SUCH A SHORT TIME IF THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT LOVE WHILE THEY DANCED IN THE MANGA??? OMG: AND THERE IS NO MINI FLASHBACK OF LOUIS (we think it’s him) TEACHING NOE TO DANCE EITHER!!! ;_;

augh. i’m glad they keep domi and jeanne line to each other but without the people they lose context….. bc there’s no threat to domi’s reputation by dancing with jeanne ;_; also. i think they keep less of the sheer ambiguety on who noe’s likes from the manga…. to imply straightness ;_; but also somehow made it queerer than in the manga bc no people and they stood there in each other arms talking and then vani squeezed noe’s hand? what the hell was that???! it was weird, but good XD

but the va’s were fantastic!! vanitas’ in particular omg it was fantastic!!! through all the episode. and i loved also domi and noe scene ;D tehè

just. dunno. were those noe -> jeanne vibe or noe -> vanitas vibes? who knows. is noe following teacher advice and studying the people (AKA Vanitas) near the book? who knows? i’ll cross my fingers for vannoe >-< XD
alnair_tair: (Default)

I’m midly baffled by all the people that said Vanitas has become unwatchable after episode 3. (I come from the manga) And it’s your right!! Nothing wrong, it just confuses me bc, like.

The story and charas are so interesting, and just bc someone acts in a way you don’t like you stop watching? (I know for some poeple it’s more complicated, and like, noncon kissing being a hard no is understable) But what does that have to do with your like of the story? I mean, I understand stopping when you watch/read something bc the charas-plot is stupid and not engaging, but when it’s all the contrary… Does everything wrong need to be blatanly signaled and condened by the charas and narrative for your pace of mind? (not accusative, just curious. there’s levels and shadows of gray to this stuff of course)

Of course there’s stuff you may not agree with or like, (or be repulsed by and then you exercise your right to nope out) but when it’s interesting I just keep reading bc who knows what’s in the future and I can separate my feels on “i love reading this” vs “that would be fucked up in reality, let’s analise why it appears here” really easily as long as i’m absorved by the story.

Still defining a chara for its lowest moments is like. Meh. Not like Vanitas no Carte isn’t in part an study in all the ways boundaries being violated can affect someone and so, EP3 kiss is part of the theme, the plot and the chara progression. There’s a difference btwen that and gratuite violence for the lulz, but hey. YMMV. It can still be gross to you, or you may not like how MochiJun explores it in the manga. I just don’t get it, so I’m in the sidlines being all @~@ sometimes.
alnair_tair: (Default)

there’s a special kind of hell for when you start writing something, and look at previous snippets, or first takes from like a year of two before and the only thing you can see it’s this: holy shit this is stupid and pretentious!!!

specially when you hate that kind of writing. oops?
alnair_tair: (Default)
super crack thought but seeing a few gifs of that scene in moana where moana gives back to te fiti her heart recognizing her and sympathing in the midst of her pained fury as te ká i suddenly remembered the silmarils and feanor…. and ok i think this is a signal i’ve spent too much time in the silm fandom. if anything te fiti is more like yavanna and her two trees?? but the emphasis in how loss can make someone become irreconocible /feanor/ who causes great harm and they’re still deserving of empathy and restorement /more my hopes for him/ hum. like two different genres, and cultures, and audience. but still. it bugs me…. maybe it has to do with the mythic storytelling, that it rhymes even so far apart, no matter if the focus is more tragic or not?
